A great player widely unknown even though he was playing just a few years before Federer and was one of the five players to have beat him at Wimbledon and even has a winning record against Federer, 4-2, making him one of four players to have a winning record against him, after playing more than 4 matches against him. He was not the most successful player at Grand Slams, winning 2 of 3 Grand Slam Finals. His winning record isn't the best percentage and he hasn't taken many titles but he was the last person to take a singles and doubles titles at the same Grand Slam in the same year. He made the Finals of the ATP World Tour Finals once and won the Olympic Games in 2000. He also helped Russia to Davis Cup glory in 2002. Surprisingly he never took a Masters 1000 trophy, even after 5 finals but he did make it to number 1 for 6 weeks in 1999 but relinquished the rank quickly as he was playing in the time of some greats like Sampras and Agassi This is an open era record, being the only player to win 2 Grand Slams but no Masters 1000 trophy. He now plays in the champions tour in tennis, this is for past legends, and others greats like Pat Cash play as well.
