The 4th round of the women's US Open is today and here are the predictions.
Match 1 - Novak Djokovic vs Alexandr Dolgopolov

This is their first match against each other
The world number 1 has played amazingly this year as well as greatly at this year's US Open. The 23rd seed has had a good year for him in his second year of Grand Slam main draw but has looked a bit shaky in some of his matches. The world number 1 will be hard to topple especially in the form he is in.
Conclusion - I think it will be an easy straight sets win over the 23rd seed with a chance of a tie breaker and possibly even a set for Dolgopolvov.
Match 2 - Janko Tipsarevic vs Juan Carlos Ferrero

Round 2 vs Monfils - 6-7(5), 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4

Round 1 vs Gensse - 6-2, 7-5, 6-0
Round 2 vs Petzschner - 6-0, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3

Juan Carlos Ferrero leads 2-0
Ferrero won both meetings in 2006 and 2007.
Ferrero has been in great form taking out big names, even after a not so great year. Tipsarevic hasn't been challenged, after Berdych retired and their previous meetings don't matter match because they were a long time ago. It will be a close match.
Conclusion - Tipsarevic should have enough to overcome Ferrero in 4 sets but the Spaniard could cause an upset.
Match 3 - Roger Federer vs Juan Monaco

Round 1 vs Giraldo - 6-4, 6-3, 6-2
Round 2 vs Sela - 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
Round 3 vs Cilic - 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2

Federer has won both meetings in 2007 and earlier this year at Miami
Federer is in good form and he is the more experienced player. Monaco has also shown good form in this tournament but I don't think he match up to the occasion of this match.
Conclusion - Federer will probably win in straight sets but it would be no surprise if he dropped the first or second set.
Match 4 - Jo-Wilfred Tsonga vs Mardy Fish

Round 1 vs Lu - 6-4, 6-4, 6-4
Round 2 vs Bubka - 6-3, 7-5, 6-2
Round 3 vs Verdasco - 6-3, 7-5, 6-4
Best US Open - Quarter Finals, 2008
Round 1 vs Kamke - 6-2, 6-2, 6-1
Round 2 vs Jarizi - 6-2, 6-2, 6-4
Round 3 vs Anderson - 6-4, 7-6(4), 7-6(3)
This will be their first match between each other
This is a hard decision for 2 in form players. Fish has had a fantastic run of tournaments before the US Open as well as a quarter finals appearance at wimbledon. He is one of the in form players of the last month. Tsonga has also performed well at this tournament and is playing well.
Conclusion - This will be a close match but I think Fish will win in 4 or 5 sets.
Match 5 - John Isner vs Gilles Simon

Round 1 vs Mello - 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
Round 2 vs Garcia-Lopez - 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-3
Round 3 vs Del Potro - 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 7-6(3)

Round 1 vs Baghdatis - 7-6(2), 7-6(11), 2-6, 6-4
Round 2 vs Ginepri - 6-4, 6-3, 6-4
Round 3 vs Bogomolov - 7-6(9), 6-4, 6-4
They have never met before
The big serving american has had some tough matches, none of which have been seeds, however, did show good form before the tournament. The 12th seed has had a tough route to the 4th round with a 5 set match and 2 4 set matches but this has included a great win over former champion Del Potro.
Conclusion - I think this could easily go all the way to 5 sets and it all depends on their form on the day but I think Simon will just squeeze a win over Isner in 5 sets.
Match 6 - Donald Young vs Andy Murray

Round 3 vs Chela - 7-5, 6-4, 6-3

Round 2 vs Haase - 6-7(5), 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4
Round 3 vs Lopez - 6-1, 6-4, 6-2
Young won their only meeting earlier this year in straight sets at Indian Wells
Both players had a 5 set match in the second round and 3 set matches in the other 2 matches. However, Murray had to work harder against the unseeded Haase from 2 sets down. Murray was great in his 3rd round match. Young has beaten 2 seeded players and is in the form of his life at this year's US Open, making it to the 4th round of a Grand Slam for the first time.
Conclusion - If Murray finds his top form from his 3rd round match then this should be a routine straight sets victory, however, if he starts making mistakes and his serve let's him down Young could take chances and get this to 5 sets or win it.
Match 7 - David Ferrer vs Andy Roddick

Ferrer won their last match earlier this year
Roddick is not the same player that he was 8 years ago when he won the US Open and has not had a very good year, losing his american number 1 ranking. On the other hand Roddick has played quite well at this year's US Open, however, none of the players are highly ranked. Ferrer has also done quite well at this year's US Open and has had a good year in general, having made the Australian Open Semi-Finals earlier this year.
Conclusion - Ferrer seems like the favourite but Roddick has the home crowd advantage and I think Ferrer will win in 4 sets.
Match 8 - Rafael Nadal vs Giles Muller

Round 2 vs Mahit - 6-2, 6-2 ret
Round 3 vs Nalbandian - 7-6(5), 6-1, 7-5
Best US Open - Quarter Finals, 2008
Round 1 vs Roger-Vasselin - 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4
Round 2 vs Gulbis - 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-6(5)
Round 3 vs Kunitsyn - 6-1, 6-4, 6-4
Nadal won their only match this year, which was their first match for 6 years
Nadal has been in great form this year, even if not better than last year, he has played very well. Muller has had a great tournament.
Conclusion - Nadal is by far the favourite and I think he will win in straight sets unless he loses a tie breaker.
