Gulbis beat Andreev 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. The third seed comes back from a set down to beat Andreev.

Starace beat Kubot 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3. The second seed is also out, after losing in three sets to Starace.

Stakhovsky beat Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4. Stakhovsky beats the seventh seed in just 2 sets.

Troicki beat Chela 6-2, 6-3. The fourth seed eases past Chela in 2 sets.

Simon beat Gil 6-1, 6-3. Simon drops just 4 games on the way to beating Gil in straight sets.

Gasquet beat Seppi 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. The fifth seed needs to come back from a set down to beat Seppi.

WTA Sydney


Clisters beat Azarenka 6-3, 6-2. The world number three and third seed has no trouble against the seventh seed, winning in straight sets.

Na beat Kuznetsova 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3. The eighth seed recovers from a set down with a second set tie breaker win and finishes 6-3 in the last set.

Jovanovski beat Pennetta 6-4, 6-1. Jovanovski continues a great run with an easy straight sets win over Pennetta.

Kleybanova beat Cibulkova 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Kleybanova needs three sets to overcome Cibulkova.

Nalbandian beat Petzschner 6-3, 6-2. The sixth seed eases past Petzschner in straight sets.

Almagro beat Hanescu 6-4, 7-6(3). The second seed needs two sets and a tie breaker to beat Hanescu.

Ferrer beat Kamke 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-4. The top seed recovers from losing the first set by winning the next two sets with some difficulty.

Isner beat Haase 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5. The third seed has to come back from a set down to beat Haase.

Giraldo beat Montanes 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The fourth seed loses in three sets to Giraldo.

Kohlschreiber beat Granollers 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The eighth seed needs three sets to beat Granollers.

Mannarino beat Clement 7-5, 6-4. Mannarino needs to close sets to beat Clement.
